Core-X

The books are right before anything else is built on them.

Core-X is a core banking platform for African banks and microfinance banks. Customers, loans, savings, payments and regulatory reports all sit on one ledger that the database itself keeps honest.

GL-2100 Scheme settlement30,000.00
GL-4400 Transfer fee income25.00
GL-2650 VAT payable1.88
Debits less credits0.00 – balanced

If these did not add up, the database would refuse to save the entry. The fee is booked as income only now, when the scheme confirmed the payment.

One ledger. Customer money, loans, plans and the general ledger are the same journal.

Rules in the database. Balancing, immutability and limits are enforced where they cannot be skipped.

One bank or many. Each bank has its own database, name and colour.

What a bank gets

Thirteen areas, each with its own page. Cards marked as simulated run against a built-in stand-in until the real scheme or provider is connected.

How it is built

Java 21 and Spring Boot on top, PostgreSQL 16 underneath. The money rules are written as database migrations, and the application layer stays thin, so the rules are the same whichever channel the customer uses.

It ships as Docker containers, so a bank can run it on a server in its own country. Each bank is its own database, reached by its own address.

  • Balanced entries enforced at commit
  • Immutable journal, audit trail and assessments
  • Idempotent payments, safe to retry
  • Two-person approval where money or risk is involved
  • Over 1,100 automated database checks run on every release
